The EAPL-S is thrilled to announce that there will be a online workshop on grant writing held on October 9th 2024 by Prof. Lorraine Hope.
Lorraine Hope is a Professor of Applied Cognitive Psychology at the University of Portsmouth and has been a core member of the Information Elicitation programme at the UK National Centre for Research and Evidence on Security Threats (CREST). Over the past two decades, her research has led to the creation of innovative tools and techniques, based on psychological science, for eliciting information in various investigative contexts. Her work significantly impacts international policing, intelligence, and security sectors through research, evaluation, training, and tool development. She has published extensively on memory and information elicitation and is a frequent speaker at both academic and professional conferences. In addition to this, Lorraine has secured over £2million in funding for research, demonstrating her ability to secure competitive funding for innovative academic projects from both traditional and non-traditional sources.
Overview of the workshop by Prof. Hope:
“In this 2-hour workshop for early career researchers, we’ll talk about turning your research idea into an application for funding, the opportunities and pitfalls in preparing funding bids, how to give your bid the best chance in competition and, importantly, recovering from rejection if it doesn’t work out. Most of the workshop will be a lecture format based on my experience of over 20 years of applying for funding both in the UK and internationally, including some useful resources I’ve encountered along the way. There will also be some individual exercises and, hopefully, plenty of tips and suggestions you can take away from the session. As this session will involve participants from multiple countries, I won’t focus on specific funders or schemes – but the content should be applicable to any opportunity that you decide to go for!”
The workshop will focus especially on our student and early-career members, however, all EAPL members are welcome to join.
